The Hansik Contest 2019 is back in Singapore in search of the local K-Food cooking champion to represent Singapore at the global K-Food cooking competition in Korea. Proudly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Singapore (Korean Embassy), the Hansik Contest this time takes Singapore’s multi-cultural community in consideration and aims to promote Halal Korean cooking with Halal ingredients and dishes.

The event will be held on 6 July 2019, 2pm – 5pm at Cooking Studio at Our Tampines Hub. The competition is open to Singapore citizens only and a maximum of 12 teams with 2 people per team will be competing on-the-spot on that day.

During the competition, participants will be required to cook two dishes within 60 minutes. First dish is Japchae, a glass noodle with sautéed vegetable dish that is very popular in Korea and known to symbolise longevity for its consumers, and the second would be a Korean dish of participants’ choice using halal-certified chicken as the main ingredient. To ensure that the competition is fair and certified Halal, the main ingredients will be prepared by the Organiser and any additional meat ingredients brought by participants will be checked for Halal certification.

The Korean Embassy has selected the panel of judges to independently award the scores based on food quality, taste and dish presentation. Bonus points will be awarded based on the video entries that the applicants have to submit to qualify for the competition. There are 3 prizes to be won – Grand Prize: $500 cash as well as a flight ticket and accommodation for one person for the Global Hansik Contest in Korea, Second Prize: $300 cash and Third Prize: $200.
