If you have ever fantasized about attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and living in the magical castle, here is something that will get you packing your bags for London. The Georgian House hotel in London is offering its guests a Harry Potter Hotel Package, with Hogwarts-themed bedrooms that have been designed and furnished to resemble the dormitories in the school of magic.
The Georgian House is a four-star hotel that was built back in 1851, and is still run by the descendants of the original owners. So you can be sure that the hotel has an authentic old charm going on. While the hotel traditionally offers Victoria Classic and Belgravia Boutique rooms, they have decided to take full advantage of the renewed worldwide interest in Harry Potter ever since JK Rowling released a new Harry Potter story on her website, Pottermore.
They call it “The Georgian House's Wizard Chambers”, and the two transformed rooms each come with a four-poster bed, potion bottles, cauldrons, spell books, battered trunks and other similarly themed magical artifacts. The walls, ceilings and flooring are given that extra Hogwarts touch with appropriately colored accents, perfectly encapsulating the Harry Potter experience.
“The rooms are initially inspired by the Harry Potter films; the draped four-poster beds, and the battered trunks for instance,” said Serena von der Heyde, partner at the 163-year-old Georgian House. “The initial idea was to find something to really appeal to children. But we really wanted to create a magical experience, so there are lots of original and creative touches, like a wand painted into the hand of a portrait of Mona Lisa, for example.”
The rooms are available as part of the package that includes a “Muggle walking tour” throughout London, which takes guests to some of the movie's filming locations, like platform 9¾ at King’s Cross Station. You will also be traveling in style on the custom-designed Harry Potter tour bus where they will bring you to the Warner Brother's Studio tour where you can check out the films' sets and props.
Since there are only two Harry Potter themed rooms in The Georgian House, the waiting list is long. In fact, after news about the Harry Potter rooms went viral, The Georgian House website
crashed from the overload of traffic.
The smaller Hogwarts-styled “dorm” room can accommodate up to three people at £249 (SGD$509) per night, while the larger room that sleeps five costs £363 (SGD$743) for an overnight stay. Room rates without the extras cost £209 (SGD$428) per night for two, with an additional £20 for a child.
If you are looking forward to having an epic feast for breakfast like the ones you see being held in the dining hall of Hogwarts, you will be sorely disappointed. There won't be a gargantuan spread of food (that seems enough to feed a third world country) and you won't be able to engage in a hilarious conversation with the eccentric Nearly Headless Nick. The hotel serves a regular English breakfast, but if you are lucky, you might just get to bump into John Cleese (with his head perfectly and stably on) while exploring the streets of London.
