The burger bar to the stars in Hollywood has been blazing a trail for unique hand-crafted burgers in Singapore since its arrival on our sunny island just one year ago. 25 Degrees originated from Los Angeles, where it remains a favorite haunt for Hollywood celebrities craving for good American fast food. Singapore has too been bestowed with its gift of unapologetically sinful and greasy gastronomical delights at Hotel G, where limited time burgers are always being constantly introduced to keep things fresh and exciting.
25 Degrees is aptly named after the precise temperature difference between a raw and well-done burger patty. This burger & liquor bar is located on the first floor of Hotel G Singapore, a stone's throw from Orchard Road and Bugis Street, with the convenience of many MRT stations close by.
The open-concept establishment is simple, yet chic and sophisticated. With red baroque wallpaper, dark-oak furnishings, brightly colored chairs, and cozy diner booths, it gives off an old-school Hollywood charm with a laid-back vibe.
Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc (left), Mojito (right)
Dive into the majestic eclectic waterfall of the drinks menu. From fruit sodas to creamy milkshakes, and cocktails to liquors, there is a poison of choice for everyone. The chocolate milkshake is thick, creamy and chocolatey, with extra chocolate syrup squirted in for that additional spurt of chocolatey goodness. If you are looking for something light and refreshing, go for the sweet and fizzy Kronenbourg Blanc or the minty, zesty and icey mojito.
Curly Fries, $5
The delicious and savory whorls of potatoes are battered with just the perfect ratio of salt and spice. The wonderfully seasoned battered layer on the exterior is thin and crisp, while the insides are warm, fluffy and earthy.
Onion Rings $5
Each translucent circlet of onion is encased within a light and crumbly crust that shatters apart, savory and crunchy, cutting a striking flavor and textural contrast against the sweet, melt-in-the-mouth fleshy onion leaf.
Larb Gai Burger, $16 (Limited-Time Special)
This thai-style chicken burger was created after Executive Chef Sam returned from his Thailand trip, deeply inspired by the classic larb gai which is a dish consisting of chopped chicken, mint, basil, red onions, lime and red chilies. This burger is similarly made up of minced chicken, mint and thai basil , with the chef's creative decision of including shredded cabbage and a secret homemade sauce into the fray. The chicken patty is moist and juicy. Every bite yields an evergreen crunch from the from the chopped vegetables secreted away in the patty. The thai basil and secret sauce gives a sharp spiciness to the burger, while the nest of julienned white cabbage evens out its spice factor. The Larb Gai Burger is only available from now, till 19 December 2018.
Craft Your Own, $20
Meat: Ground Sirloin ($10.50) | Extras: Caramelized Onions ($2) Prosciutto ($2), Bacon ($2) | Sauce: Spicy Aioli ($1.50) | Cheese: Point Reyes Blue ($2)
You know a burger bar is legit when it offers a wide selection of ingredients to create your very own burger masterpiece. There are four patties to choose from – ground sirloin, turkey, yellowfin tuna or veggie, with at least 13 toppings, 14 sauces, and 12 cheeses.
We went for the classic beef patty, which turned out not very classic at all, as we found out when we bit into it. This gorgeous hefty slab of beef is not your run-of-the-mill beef patty that is basically ground up cow parts of unknown origins. 25 Degrees' beef patty is as premium as a patty can ever get. Sirloin steak is manually chopped with a cleaver by hand into grain-sized bits and formed into a patty. Because the patty is not made up of beef that has been ground as nitty gritty as sand, when you bite into the burger, a deluge of divine bovine juices surge into your mouth, like what you would get from chewing on a good fatty piece of steak, except that the mastication process is faster and so much more tender since the steak has been chopped into pearl shapes pieces.
We added on caramelized onions for that chargrilled sweetness, and prosciutto and bacon for that smokey, fatty and salty kick. The burger was drenched in spicy aioli that contributed to a creamy, garlicky and spicy dressing and finished off with point reyes blue cheese that gave a caustic richness to the burger.
Number One, $14
The same premium beef patty made from chopped sirloin is sandwiched between two fluffy buns and complemented by caramelized onions, crescenza, prelibato gorgonzola, bacon, arugula, and thousand island dressing. The two different types of cheeses in this burger meld into each other to create a creamy, melty and salty bonding agent that holds the loose ingredients all together, with the caramelized onions providing a chargrilled sweetness, the bacon contributing to a smokey, fatty, and salty bite, the arugula refreshing the palate with its peppery evergreen freshness, and the thousand island sauce supplying its distinctive sweet, tangy and creamy combination of flavors.
Number Four, $14
This extraordinary burger constructed from yellowfin tuna patty, butter lettuce, crispy fried onions, and spicy aioli is surprisingly rather light and pleasant on the palate. The patty has a firm texture with a mild taste of the sea that is counterbalanced with the infusion of minced vegetables within the closely packed flakes of yellowfin tuna. The butter lettuce provides a smooth, buttery and refreshing crisp, the onion rings gives a crunchy and sweet bite, and the spicy aioli delivers that much needed creamy and spicy punch to cut through the flavors and prevent the fish patty from getting too overwhelmingly heavy.
