Caffé B's Refreshing New Lunch Sets will Take Your Breath Away

Caffe B review
If you are a regular reader of FreshGrads.Sg, you will be extremely familiar with the very affordable yet swanky Japanese-Italian restaurant located in The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands that is Caffé B. We have written countless glowing reviews of its ever revolving festive/lunch/dinner set menus, and it is no surprise that this time round, we are as equally impressed with the gourmet food served up at mind-bogglingly low prices.
Caffé B has whipped up a new Bar and Restaurant 3-course Lunch Set Menu priced at $20 and $25 respectively. The set menus are changed up frequently with brand new spanking dishes specially cooked up in the heads of its master chefs that are not available even in the a la carte menu so that your dining experience with Caffé B will always remain an interesting and delicious one.

Starter – Fresh Mesclun Green Salad

Mesclun Salad
The vegetables in this salad are so fresh and crisp that it tastes as though the chef handpicked it from a secret garden and immediately plated it up to be served. The sweet and savory sauce mixed with the refreshing and slightly bittr greens really help in opening up your palate.
Main Course
Choose either a hearty risotto or a chilled pasta.
1. Risotto alla Milane “Tendon Style”
A classic Italian Saffron Risotto served with Golden Crispy Ebi Tempura & mixed vegetables in homemade Japanese Tendon Sauce
Saffron Risotto
Saffron Risotto
The chef that created this risotto definitely has the Midas Touch, for this plate of risotto is pure gold not only in terms of its color, but also in its multi-dimensional taste and textures. The tempura and mixed vegetables are deep-fried till extremely crunchy, drenched in a sweet tendon sauce and laid on a cushy bed of saffron risotto. The top layer of the risotto is covered with a thick layer of gooey cheese which is oh-so-heavenly, and the saffron gives the creamy risotto a subtle honey-like sweetness and a very fragrant aroma. The tempura is extremely crumbly on the outside but the prawn meat remains springy and juicy on the inside. The crispiness from both the tempura and vegetables wonderfully complements the contrasting mouthfeel of the creamy risotto. It is one of the best risottos I have ever eaten.
2. Chilled Pesto and Wakame Capellini alla Caprese
Caffé B's version of Chilled Capellini Pasta mixed with Pesto, topped with fresh Wakame and served with Buffalo Mozzarella and Tomatoes Caprese Style
cold pasta
cold pasta
This is the epitome of a light summer dish, and since it is summer all year round in Singapore, this chilled pasta will help in combating the sweltering heat. This is what happens if the Italians took the concept of Japanese soba and adapted it for their own cuisine interweaving some Japanese elements to pay homage to the origins of the dish. The chilled pesto is extremely refreshing and will revitalize your tastebuds with the light and flavorful al dente pesto pasta, the chewy sesame oil seasoned wakame seaweed, the sweet and fresh tomatoes and creamy and tart mozzarella. This dish will make you crave for more with every bite and it will perk up any dreary and humid day.
Dessert – Caramelized Milk Pudding
Steamed Milk and Egg Yolk Custard drizzled with Creamy Caramel served with Fresh Cream and Wild Berries

This unique pudding is nothing like you have ever tasted before. It tastes like a mix between the fillings of an egg tart and custard. It is very rich, sweet, creamy and eggy and pairs really well with the sour raspberry coulis sauce.

Choose either a fresh salad or a warm bowl of soup.
1. Tofu Salad
Fresh Crispy Golden Tofu and Mixed Greens tossed in Soya Sesame dressing topped with Cherry Tomatoes, Wakame and Sesame Seeds

Tofu Salad
Crisp leafy vegetables and juicy cherry tomatoes are tossed in a scrumptious and savory soya sesame dressing and topped with wakame seaweed, sesame seeds and deep-fried tofu. This is a light and refreshing starter to whet your appetite that is both healthy and delicious.
2. Chef's Fresh Pot of the Day
Cream of Broccoli
Broccoli soup
Hearty and comforting, the soup is prepared fresh from scratch every day in Caffé B's kitchen and the type of soup varies after the chefs decide which particular ingredients from the daily stock delivered to the restaurant are the freshest and will work the best. I had the cream of broccoli soup which is essentially a very simple and homely comforting soup that is smooth, creamy and slightly refreshing.
Main Course
Choose between the clam linguine, wagyu steak, and eggplant tower.
1. Linguine con le Vongole
A traditional Neapolitan dish of Clams and Linguine Pasta steamed in White Wine Sauce, Chili Confit and Italian Parsley
Vongole Linguine
Vongole Linguine
A classic dish that cannot go wrong. Caffé B's version of the vongole linguine is kicked up a notch by the addition of chili confit and a generous amount of minced garlic which smells wonderful and provides a slight sharpness to the delicate dish. The taste of the clams is not too strong, but you can still get hints of the flavors of the sea mixed with white wine.
2. Wagyu Groppa Filetto
Pan seared Wagyu Rump served with creamy Pomme Puree, roasted Vegetables and Port Wine Reduction

wagyu steak
“Here is your masterpiece wagyu rump steak,” the German manager of Caffé B proudly announced as he set it down on our table. We guessed that this is probably one of his favorites since the soft-spoken man has never introduced any other dishes like that before, and when we cut a piece for ourselves, we immediately found out why. Before I start explaining how it tastes like, it is crucial to understand which part of the cow you will be consuming. The rump steak is taken from the center rump section in the hindquarter which comprises of a single muscle unlike other cuts of beef which are held together by connective tissues, this means that there will not be any dreaded rubbery parts and the beef itself will be extremely tender, more so if it is wagyu. The premium wagyu rump is grilled medium rare and drenched with a savory yet sweet wine sauce. Even without the sauce, the beef itself is already extremely flavorful from all its retained juices. You can practically see the marbling in the succulent slab of beef as you dig into it. I would have never expect to pay just $25 for a three-course meal with a high quality wagyu steak as a choice for the main course in any establishments. You can get your money's worth (and probably more) with this exquisite wagyu rump.
Melanzane alla Parmegiana
A classic northern Italian take on a gratinated tower of Eggplant, layered with Parmesan and Tomato Relish, served with cream of Zucchini Sauce
It is hard to tell what is going on with this huge, staggering tower of food until you deconstruct it. So basically starting from the plate up, it is a big chunk of eggplant, followed by tomato relish, covered with a copious amount of melted mozarella cheese, then another big chunk of eggplant, tomato relish and flooded with mozarella cheese on top. The taste of the eggplant is very akin to what sweet potato tastes like except that the texture of the eggplant is softer, juicier and melts in your mouth, and the skin surrounding it provides a welcome textural contrast to the extremely mushy dish. The sweetness of the eggplant mixed with the creaminess of the mozzarella cheese and tanginess of the tomatoes creates a heart-warming feeling.
Dessert – Chocolate Peanut Bar
Chocolate and Cheese Brownie with Madagascar Vanilla Bean Chantilly glazed with Peanut Ganache served with Raspberry Coulis and Fresh Forest Berries
chocolate cake
A mouthwatering three-way between a chocolate brownie, cheesecake and chocolate spongecake makes the perfect conclusion to a sumptuous lunch. The top two layers of the cake are extremely soft, creamy and melts in your mouth with a crunch from scattered peanuts while the bottom layer is a light and fluffy chocolate spongecake. The sweet treat is best eaten with the tangy raspberry coulis which perfectly complements the dessert.
