Chinese New Year nights often calls for a late night movie with friends as close as relatives. This year, we have good old jolly Stephen Chow's work, Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons, on screens!
Most would be familiar with the plot of Journey to the West. If not, it's basically about a prim and proper Buddhist monk who heads to the west to retrieve holy scriptures. He is accompanied by and protected by his hilarious disciples, the most famous of who would be the Monkey King of course. Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing simply adds on to the hilarious misadventures that ensue.
The last film with Chow would be CJ 7, which is a good four years back. So it is with no surprise that Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons is a highly anticipated show by fans of the Hong Kong comedy king. The man himself will be behind the camera and plays a disguised role in the film. We will not spoil the film for you, but it would be fun to know and attempt to spot Chow.
Chow may be in a role that would be barely noticed but with a star studded cast which includes Shu Qi, Show Luo and Bo Wong, and a great deal of special effects, one would be in for much laughter. As with all slapstick comedies, we would say leave logic behind and enjoy the silly antics.
