Puss in Boots

Puss_in_BootsWho would have thought this harmless looking spinoff after three installments of Shrek could be this good? Voiced by Antonio Banderas, the suave Casanova – or so he thinks – kitty does well beyond Shrek in this hilarious, charming kitty tale.

Set in fairytale land, you will also get to meet Humpty Dumpty, the Golden Goose as well as Jack and Jill. Our male lead here attempts to steal the prized goose from a giant's castle nestled among the clouds. The only way in would be through the magic beanstalk of course. His helpers are good buddy Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis) and love interest Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek). But what's a good fairytale without the villains? In this story, they are no other than Jack and Jill (Billy Bob Thornton and Amy Sedaris).

The characters are brought to live by the voices of the humans behind them, which also plays a huge part why the movie works. And, of course, the humour. Several scenes, especially the flamenco-style dance between Puss and Kitty Softpaws, almost got us rolling on the floor with laughter.

However, with certain subtle innuendos (feline one-night stand and illegal substances are among mentioned), this film is slightly too explicit for the young audience. Other than this, we would say it's purrfect for a relaxed silly weekend flick to unwind with.
