You will be surprised to know that this highly successful local fashion brand for females was first conceived and set up by a man. Mr Tan Yew Kiat, founder of bYSI, was shopping around in Europe some years ago when he was enraptured by the fashion scene there. When he returned to Singapore, he then invested $30,000 of his savings and set up the first store in Tiong Bahru Plaza in 1998. bYSI has since ventured to Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and even South Korea.
What I really liked about bYSI is the little twists added to the simplicity of some of its pieces – great for pairing up with chunkier accessories or a unique belt. And though prices at bYSI are affordable, I had no problem chalking up S$200 in a single receipt, which entitled me to free lifetime member and 15% off purchases thereafter.
Now, put away those boring grey suits and dull cashmere cardigans; head down to bYSI where will be no more what-to-wear-to-work woes!
